Fourth parade
There were two cars in our fourth parade in the "vintage car" class, my 1930 Town Sedan and a Shay replica roadster. The Shay got the prize!

Re: Fourth parade
Unfortunately that seems to be the way it goes, people vote for color or some gimmick rather than the correct vehicle., JMHO.

Re: Fourth parade
I sure would have voted for the Town Sedan, it shows you that people don't know what they are looking at. I would protest as the Shay should be licensed as a new car, (1979?) and not as an antique. Ask them to check the registration next time.

Re: Fourth parade
I would ask the parade organizers, AND THE SHAY OWNER, about the definition of VINTAGE particularly as pertains to a 1979-1980 car, and HOW the Shay owner would accept the prize..

Re: Fourth parade
agree with all the above statements, however, many Shay owners seem to truly believe they have a "Model A".
as to the "People's Choice " award, I always call that the "Red Convertible" award. |

Re: Fourth parade
In my opinion, it's a little demeaning in "peoples' choice judging" to have to be at the mercy of a crowd of folks who just stopped by to see the "pretty cars" and don't have the slightest idea of what they're looking at.
Oh well, we like to have the public look at our cars and enjoy them. We're big enough to just swallow our pride and let them have fun and feel like ther're "participating". The "Red Convertible Award"....well said. - or the glitziest hot rod... A Shay over a REAL Model A?! Is there no justice in this world?... |

Re: Fourth parade
This is one of many reasons I absolutely refuse to enter my A in a car show. I know I am being very hard about this, but I would just as soon see all car judging of this type outlawed.
With that said; when a person puts long hours and skinned knuckles into a restoration, they want to have recognition for that work. And they should be recognized. I will never have the opportunity to build a fine point car, but those that do; I encourage them to enter MARC and MAFCA events. With the judging standards, and the judging procedures used; it is as near to perfect judging wise as can be had. Judging will never be perfect because of the human factor, but at least the two organizations keep trying. This is strictly my opinion only.

Re: Fourth parade
You obviously have our vote, Bob. My car was restored 22 years ago by and for amateurs from a real basket case. I know what it is and other Model Aers know what it is - a piece of American history saved from the junk yard and making smiles everywhere it goes. Stick with it!
