57 Fairlane parts
Hi all,
Anyone know of a source for heavy duty anti sway bars for my 57 Fairlane, also for a rebuild kit or a rebuilt steering box (non power)? Many Thanks in advance for any help. Also asked over on 57 Fords forever. |

Re: 57 Fairlane parts
I sent my 55 Tbird steering box to Redhead Steering Gears in Washington to be rebuilt. Any of the Ford parts suppliers will have rebuild kits, or will rebuild yours. I would use Redhead again.

Re: 57 Fairlane parts
For the steering box there's also Lares Corp.
https://www.larescorp.com/ I googled for the sway bar but the only thing that comes up is for the T-bird. Maybe the same as a Fairlane but unlikely. Polyurethane bushings on the stock sway bar may get you where you want to be. I've got 'em on my Merc and they work fine. Check Energy Suspension; you may need the measurements of your old bushings to match 'em up. Be sure to get the special grease or they'll drive you batsh!t with the squeaking.

Re: 57 Fairlane parts
If you decide to rebuild the steering box yourself, fill it with 00 grease. That's what Redhead used because they are prone to leakage. Mine was bone dry when I removed it. That was also a problem with early Corvette steering boxes. GM's warranty fix was 00 grease.

Re: 57 Fairlane parts
FWIW, I bought a rear bar from Addco for my 55 bird in 1967 or 68. I'm pretty sure the ones on my bird now are Addco (1999 or so). So they've been around a long time.
