Default 31 Steel Top CCPU

Looking for any information or pictures of the installation of a steel top on a 31 CCPU. Any pictures of the cab inside and out would be appreciated. Also the measurements for placement of the top bows inside the cab.

I don't know if any of these photos will help in the least. I didn't do the bows, so I have no clue as to the accuracy of placement of them or them being original. Mine is a '30, 82-B, ccpu.

Hope they help.

I went out an took measurements from right down the center of the top of the cab, from bow to bow off the front header. They may not be 100% accurate, as my vision is sometimes off.

From the header to bow #1 was 6 3/4", center of #1 bow to the header.
Between bow #1 and #2, the measurement was 7 1/4", center to center of the wood.
Between Bow # 2 and #3, the measurement was 7 1/4", center to center of the wood.

From bow #3 to the rear and final wood piece support it was 7 1/2" center to center. That rear most wood piece is larger or wider than the other bows.

These bows are joined at the sides by wood and metal strips.

My visor is not riveted on or bolted on so that you can see any bolts or such.My truck has the covering over the top and I can't see what exactly is beneath.

Hope this may help you. Like say, I am not certain of the accuracy of my measurements or if this was original or not. If you need more photos of anything, let me know and I'll try to shoot some for you.

Unfortunately, Bud can only tell you exact measurements from the header to the nearest fireplug. That is his priority in measuring things. :-)

I do believe that all steel top CCPU used only the two special steel bows. The wood bows were only used on the soft top/fabric pick ups. The two steel bows had two channels on the outer edges of each bow. These channels were filled with an anti-squeak rope type material that were seated against the steel roof. You should contact Keith Ernst at 'Tired Truck parts' for top notch details and information. He is listed in the MARC roster.

The pictures by Bob C above are the correct ones. What else do you need?

Is there a source to purchase the metal bows? A friend is putting a steel roof on his and they are the parts he is missing.

I'm confused, are you trying to repair an original steel top pick up, or adopt a steel top to a standard pu?

My photos above would be incorrect and probably not helpful to him as such. Sorry, my error.

When I restored our late '31 Bud steel topped PU, the repo door's wooden headers that I purchased came with the notches in the wood for my steel bows to rest in. There was no question where the bows would be mounted. I reused the anti squeak cotton rope in the tops of the bows. The new door headers came in at about 1/2" too long and they had to be trimmed to fit properly. After all my metal restoration, the top wood installation work felt like a well deserved vacation for me.

Adapt a steel top. It was originally a standard cab.

Where did you buy your wood for the door headers? I replaced the rear cab header with a late 31 steel top piece. All the wood I got in the top kit I originally bought was for a 30/31 cab.

Any pictures especially where the cab sits in the back and where the visor and top sit on the door pillars. I would like to see how the top and the cab back are nailed and the trim piece fits across the back of the cab.

I found my top and bows here on the fordbarn. I have only seen one other set of top bows here in the last 4 or 5 years.

Never really looked inside at the steel top bows in the trucks but I did have an old Ford Bronco (66-76 style) that had the steel top and the bows in that looked VERY close to what's in the pics. Might not be original and probably take a little fitting but it might be a source for a stamped steel top bow that looks very similar for the late 31 trucks ????
