Re: one fan belt 8ba
Are we talking single belt with generator mounted fan or separate fan belt ?

single belt that runs everything, but, cant run it off the gen. as it sits too high. been running this around my head and not sure its doable, not a big deal was just curious if there was a way short of an e-fan.

Re: one fan belt 8ba
A person always ends up getting creative with the fan drive. 8BA family engines all had either two or three belts depending on year model and whether it is a truck set up or not. The 49 Ford & Mercury plus all the trucks used two belts with one for the fan. If you convert to a generator mounted fan then it may work but it will be way up high. Some folks use an offset generator mount and add a custom fan a bit lower in the center. Lots of stuff on the HAMB about this. Especially for AV8 cars.

The 39 std uses a generator mounted fan. Why can't you adapt that to an 8BA? I think that is the only way you will get a 1 belt system.

8BA generator is higher and offset sideways is different so might hit in 2 directions. Going with a 59ab intake and generator means you need to change crankpulley and use ballbearing pumps besides that crankcase ventilation and cooling is being changed. So is the 8BA crankpulley hitting your frame now or is that not an issue ? If the lower pulley clears how about letting the generator come up as much as possible to then let the separate fan up higher by turning the bracket upside down....not sure if you can gain enough by doing that or if it clears...just a quick thought. |

Re: one fan belt 8ba
8ba generator mount is not on center? interesting, but i am not an 8ba guy. however, the early 35-39ish aluminum intakes have two different heights for the genny mount, and then the problem of the breather tube

Re: one fan belt 8ba
Not offset sideways...Belt is offset front to back compared to a 59ab.
Postdistributor made the belt setup to move to give some clearance. |

Re: one fan belt 8ba
I run a single belt on my 8-BA. However, I have an offset Alternator, wide belt truck water pumps and an electric fan.
