looking at a restored 36 ford coupe

Reading the craigslist ad for the '36 Cabr in NY, it appears that the car has changed hands three times in less that two years. I wonder why?
Could be the first guy bought it at auction paying a huge price for it, then found the car was not what he expected, he then had to dump it at a loss.. The story continues with each owner..

Or, conversely, the owner passed and someone got a great deal, kept it for a bit and now time to flip.

If you beat the bushes long enough, you'd be surprised what flushes out.

Ha Ha the owner here..I did pour gas in the carb for the first start up when i got it out to take pics..It had sat about 6 months..So silly to do that and take a picture..No it is not a 36 engine and am told by a reliable Ford man it isa 38 engine with inserts which is probably a better engine and yes it is still for sale

Ha Ha owner here and yes for the first start after 7 months sitting i did pour a little gas in the carb rather than wear out the starter but not to smart of me to take a picture with that funnel in there..The engine i am told is a 38 with inserts which is probably a better engine..By the way the car is s still for sale here in canada..Harry

Also 35.000 not 38 000.So 28 us about 35 anadian..Funny when one advertises something for sale how many people will pick away at it ..

The original poster came on here to ask for opinions on the car before buying it. All we had to go by was pictures and descriptions.

Not sure what you are after, but this is on Hemmings Auction. Looks pretty good. Remember it’s “buyer beware”.
I purchased a 39 Standard Coupe out of North Carolina a few months back. With our border being closed I could not go see it. According to the seller, dealer, it was a good driver. Well after I got it, I had to rebuild the trans, do all the brakes and it need front end work. Be cautious.

Don't buy anything that you cannot look at yourself. You also cannot always trust an inspector that you hire to do the job for you. Some may know old Fords and some may not.

Out of storage they all need the funnel. I like an inline elec pump for that. Doesn't it cost like 20 grand for body and paint today? The guy is taking a bath at 38k.

Just make sure you can go physically see the car. Too many scammers out there with lots of excuses as to why you can't see the car. "Work lots of hours", "over seas", "Selling for someone else".

$38 or $35k, inflation has caught up with early Fords. I think it comes with a stack of 2x4x8 lumber too. Good thing this car doesn't need a "chip".

Yes it could be a better engine for a 36 if that is what you are looking for. Appreciate your understanding of what you are selling. I still like the car at 20-25k usd. Guess If i was buying it I would want to kick the tires. Looks very nice.

Always best to start with the best car you can buy with the money you have. Yep 20k for paint and metal would be very liberal thinking. You can get a handle on that if you can do the work yourself of course. But you'll go through 5k in materials and paint without really doing anything fixing metal.


If that is what you are looking for ultimately. Shiny paint jobs look good in the driveway but doesn't matter if you can't drive it. You can easly drop the same amount restoring the mechanics over time. But I'd guess we don't do this stuff to get rich. Not like they are making any new 36's either. This car has been for sale for a month. Thought it would have been sold by now. Maybe price.

there are about 130 wildfires in Manitoba right now.

Mike what you are really telling me is I will have to paint my 36 myself. Yikes! I know a quality paint jobs are labor intensive and time consuming. But.... I'd have to see the car to make that assumption that's how it was done. I'd guess you can get a great paint job for less then 20k in 98.
