Re: 1940 Wheel Detail
The entire rim was painted. As Alan had advised, all five rims were painted body color on the Deluxe models and black on the Ford V8 models.
However, for an additional $5, the wheels would be painted body color (to match) on the Ford V8 models if so desired.

Re: 1940 Wheel Detail
Never on any '40 rim.
In '41, only on a Super Deluxe rim.

Re: 1940 Wheel Detail
On page 1-52 of the '40 book it shows a spare wheel mounted in a '40 sedan. Looking at the photo it does appear that there is striping on the wheel. Or is a reflection from the trim ring?

Re: 1940 Wheel Detail
Note: Post War wheels have 'outie' lug nut surfaces and Pre-war lug studs are too short for Post-war wheels. Watch for lug nuts that only thread halfway on. Newc

That's a reflection. I did my very best when taking photographs for that book. Still, no one could possibly mistake me for a great photographer.

Thanks
Just so you know, my photography skills are still very much lacking.
