Default Steering binding on '46

My brother rebuilt the steering box on his '46 to resolve sloppy steering. New needle bearings and sector. Worm original but looks good.

He now has about 1.5" free play in the center and it steers fine on the road, but when parking there is severe binding at both steering extremes. Like it takes two hands to unstick the wheel.

What is the likely cause, and which adjustment may help? King pins, tie rod and drag link are new.

Try to center the box , meaning finding the snug spot in the center. with the pitman arm off. then straighten the front wheels and install the pitman. Then adjust the drag link. make sure the steering box is adjusted properly.

Sounds like a worn worm. The worm tends to wear in the center. If he attempted to adjust the lash in the center, it would then make the ends too tight. Replace the worm with a new one.
