Arcing Brake Shoes
Looking for someone to arc my new brake shoes in Southern NH or Mass.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Re: Arcing Brake Shoes
Be sure to also ask at your local Model A and Early V8 Ford Clubs. I ended up sending mine back to the manufacturer.

Re: Arcing Brake Shoes
Try a truck brake shop. They still arch shoes and might be able to do yours.

Re: Arcing Brake Shoes
I did mine for my AA the redneck way. I used a bench belt sander. Trial and error. Took small amounts, try fit in drum, fielders gauge, try fit, repeat...

That's the way I did mine. I imagine after a few hard stops whatever small high spots there are will be gone. |

Re: Arcing Brake Shoes
You could line the drum with sand paper, insert shoe and carefully rub.

I saw someone posted that here once and others said it wouldn't work perfectly because you are arcing it to the radius of the drum minus the thickness of the sandpaper. It still seems like a clever idea to me. I don't think the thickness of the sandpaper would make a huge difference. |

Re: Arcing Brake Shoes
i have a friend(in his eighties) here that has worked on a's most of his life. he has a way
to arc the shoes in a press to make them fit the drum. in fact he gave me his old brake shoe grinder, never uses it. just bends the shoes til they fit the drum radius. |

Many years ago when Macs was still Lockport they said thats how they did them. Stuck the shoe in a press and 'warped' it. |
