Honestly without looking at the back , i would say they are both original . 1 unrestored and 1 restored. Again just looking at the pictures.

Holy smoke, you must be a youngin with good eyes for detail !
Hmm, I just got a magnifying glass to confirm your diagnosis..right on.
Now will it replace the top one (fitment) or should I find a '28 roadster to buy !

Peter,
As the one (hopefully an original) is still in the rad shell...can not take pic of that (back) to compare. Does the copper color on the top emblem ..mean that it's a topcoat plating worn away?

Yes, it should have a nickel plating.

You definitely need a '28 roadster to attach to the lower one.
Mount the emblem in a jig even with the upper part of the radiator shell and
move the car slowly toward it!

I couldn't tell with 100% certainty whether the bottom one had a STEPPED edge or a BEVELED edge.

ok,Im sure not an expert on radiator emblems
and i dont know the date they went from stepped edge to beveled edge or even rounded edges
I know the stepped edges are for 1928

there are at least three makers of the emblems for 1930

AD-SEAL
INDPLS

The DL Ault Co
Columbus O

Robbins Co
Attleboro

some DL Aults do not have the name in the emblem but in the attaching cup
the stepped edge and beveled edge seem to be made by either DL Ault
or Ad-Seal
all my Robbins have the rounded edge like the third photo
here are some photos of each type

Mot,
Great pics you do, enjoy them. What camera are you using? And that's my 1/4 cent worth! I have a copper Arizona 1/4 cent coin, something about when the state had a fractional sales tax amount.

I use an old Sony Mavic with a floppy drive
I absolutly love the camera, and have maybe 4-5 of them
and yes we do have expensive digital Nikons and other much newer cameras, but i like this one the best
it does not take good pictures at a distance, but i dont care

Mot,
Very nice collection and very informative for us who relate better to pics,eh !
From your info, looks like my 'copper' colored emplem on my '30 is a Robbins. Guess I should remove it for confirmation..but don't know how.
Q: which of these emplems that you picture, are what Ford origially used...ALL ?
From you input, I now think that the 'nice' plated one that I pictured ('28)...is a repop as there's no writing at all of the back.
Ooops..not Robbins, but DL Ault (emblem in '30 shell)

Tom,

Is this one nickel plated or is it chrome as it appears?

Hey this is kind of neat! I have a Robbins "stepped" emblem in my display case just like Mot's. Never thought to look at the mfg. before. Had to get my wife's glasses to read the name on the back. I am not sure about the plating?

ill try to answer several questions here
Marco ,i assume your asking about the Robbins chromed emblem
yes its been replated ,but the edge is rounded all the way around,im sure it hasnt been ground when plated
Ill bring them in april

how to remove the emblem with no damage
I just use a short piece of 3/4 in plastic pipe it fits perfectly in the back
then lay it on something soft, i used a towel on the grass, but you can use the rug in the living room or on the bed (if your single)
then use a sharp rap with a hammer to drive it our
they come out really easy this way
tom

Im also showing a NOS canadian emblem
its also made by Ault
the emblem is chromed and the attachment is plain steel

Here is the original radiator shell and emblem on my 1928.

For those wondering how to tell a repro shell from an original look at the crisp peak on this original compared to the more rounded peak on a repro shell. It's the same on the inner stepped lip on the front of the shell. The repro's are much less "crisp".
