Default piston pin offset

Here is a thread on the EFV8 site. I asked about piston offset and no response over there. Any comments here? Thanks
Got a new set of 0.060 pistons for a 59AB and they have no marking as to which way faces forward. They came from Speedway and the only thing on the dome is the ".060". Can they go in either direction? Thank you;
Evan

The Egge pistons for my engine had no marking. The answer I got was that "usually" no marking for front of engine meant that the pin is not offset and they can be installed either way.

Checked further and got the same information; Thanks

This has me curious. Maybe an expert can explain the reason for offset/non offset piston pins. Advantages? How much offset?
Thanks
John

Google it.

Mostly pin offset is done to reduce side loading of the piston on the power stroke, as I understand it, and the old time intent seems to have been to reduce piston scuffing. Like many other things related to internal combustion engines the effects of a mechanical change get quite complex.

The 59ab didn´t have pistons with offset and can be turned any way.
Most aftermarket pistons are for 8BA even when they are sold as 59ab replacements.
Egge is one of the few companies that know what they are selling and sells the correct stuff.
The debate of which and what and why can be endless...whats working for people is right for them !

In the flathead the crankshaft is offset. In some later OHVs it was not and offset piston pins were used.

Crank is offset for mechanical advantage, I think, while piston pin offset may or may not be depending what the engineers intended. Modern engineers "see" things a little differently it seems to me, more refined.
