Default Brake adjustment of 31 Coupe with 39 Ford hydraulic brakes?

Where can I find out how to adjust the brakes on my Model A equipped with 39 Ford hydraulic brakes. My brake pedal has way too much free travel now that the brake linings have broken in from a couple thousand miles of driving. Do I have to remove the tires and wheels? Or is there a way to make wear adjustments on the backside of the brake backing plates?

There should be a hex bolt coming through the backing plate. You pull down with a wrench until you feel a slight drag. There is a adjuster on the front and back of the backing plate.

And the long answer is here: http://www.btc-bci.com/~billben/brakeadj.html Note that the illustration is an x-ray and you are looking at the back of the backing plate, you do not need to remove the wheels and tires to adjust the brakes.

I have them on my 29, and found the page suggested by Charlie very useful.

This may also help

Generally the H.A.M.B. has more of this type of stuff than the Barn
