Default Popout switch information source?

Is there a book available that shows how to repair these things? Even some good pictures with details would be helpful. I have a "modern" style switch in my car now but would like to use a popout I have that I hope is not an old repro. It does have popout action, back cover says Mitchell Specialty Electrolock Phila. Penn. USA and a key number stamped on the cylinder (Axxxx) but no key. Can a key still be made from these numbers? If so where? Thanks for any info.

Volumes 1 and 7 of MARC's Technically Speaking series has some articles that contain drawings and information on the switches.

Below should be a link to the Technically Speaking Index on the MARC website.

http://modelarestorers.org/pdf/ts9indexmarc.pdf

If the Link does not work go to modelarestorers.org home page, then click on Members, then Technical, then MARC Publications, page down to "UPDATED" TECHNICALLY SPEAKING – INDEX

Here's a couple pictures of the front and back of the 1930-1 popout for the round speedometer. You'll have to bend back the stakes in the potmetal to remove the rear steel cover. At this point I'd check the cable with an ohm meter to make sure the wire isn't touching ground when it shouldn't be. With the key pushed in (off position) the wire IS grounded.

If the wire needs to be replaced, then you'll have to unsolder it at the key end and remove it from the contact end. The contact end is tough because it's hard to bend back the stakes. Most people just grind them away to remove the spring loaded contact.

I fixed a buddys aftermarket pop out for him and the insides look nothing like an original.
