Default early/late wishbone identification

I,m rebuilding two front axle assemblies, one for a early 28 and one for a 30.
I have two different wishbone styles. The difference is in the wishbone ball area, one is a U channel where the ball mounts and the other is kind of like a X beam where the ball mounts. I'd like to know which is early and which is late.
Sorry i can't do pictures. Thanks, Bill

I think the U channel is the earlier style.

Yes, the X style is later, and I think the change might be shown in the SERVICE BULLETINS as well as what Vince posted.

Is there any reason why you couldn't or shouldn't swap the two different A wishbones around? I happen to like the looks of the 28-29, and plan to use the one I have on a driver NOT show car chassis I plan to build

Yes, you can use either one for any year, if you don't care to stay correct time wise.
