November-December 1929 produced 1930 model vehicles
I have a mid-December 1929 production 1930 Tudor with a lot of unusual things that are not on the later production cars. I was wondering if anyone else has an early November-December 1929 production 1930 model they would like to compare. Beginning with motor number 2571782 thru 2742695. I realize some of the early numbers could have gone into the last of the 1929's so only interested in the 1930 models. It's not just the eyebrow fenders we have in common! Looking forward to hearing from you.

Gemmer two tooth steering columns were nearly the same length as the 29 model of the type until February of 1930 when the grew an inch. Pickups were nearly the same as the.29 until the new cabs hit the assembly lines. Ford did a lot of changes on the fly. A lot also depends on what branch assembly plant built the vehicle.

Re: November-December 1929 produced 1930 model vehicles
The cowl band on early 1930's has anchor a bolt about mid-way up on the sides that later 1930 and 1931 cowl bands don't have. A hole appears in each side of the cowl for this added bolt attachment. The designers must have thought the new cowl band needed an extra anchor spot in the middle in addition to the base stud. I'm sure it was awkward and time-consuming on the assembly line to install this kind of cowl band. This design was replaced with bumps on the cowl to keep the hollow-channeled cowl band in place. Now only the stud at the bottom through the lower cowl panel keeps the band set. 'Seems to work - for the past 92+ years.

Hello, on the early 1930 models, don’t the cowl bands extend to the edge of the car body, and the stamped molding is short on the cowl?

Yes, longer cowl band extends to the bottom of the cowl. Band at top of tank held on with 4 clips.

My December 1929 built only has the 2 inside rubber floor mat studs. The 2 outer ones were never installed, no evidence of removal and rewelding. Anyone else seen this?

"Anyone have additional information?"
Early 1930 Model A's had what we modern owners call "eyebrow" front fenders. There is a raised lip that runs around the front of the fender that was dropped in subsequent 1930 fenders. I believe these fenders were used from earliest 1930 model production (late 1929?) until about February, 1930, depending upon the assembly plant and supplies on hand. I don't have the "Judging Guidelines" in front of me, but I'm pretty sure by March the more familiar front fenders had replaced the eyebrow version. Marshall |

The steering column support on the bottom of the fuel tank is a different length on the early 30's. I can't remember the lengths, or which is longer, but measure your column support and then compare to a later 30 or 31.

My early 30 Rdst. PU has a 30 engine and gas tank/cowl. The rest of the truck is 29. It was an all original truck when we got it 50 years ago.
