Hello all! Could anyone recommend a good coolant additive to help lubricate water pump and maybe even help keep the temperature down on super hot days?
Or are they all around a bad idea? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

only thing know is Waterwetter may help it cool better. and run antifreeze/coolant .
your water pump has fittings to lube it.

here is a FYI
if the fitting closest to the head will not take grease there may be an issue with the way the bushing has been installed.
i have had at least 5 pumps that would not accept grease, took them apart and every time the bushing was not installed correctly. the grease hole in the bushing did not line up with the orifice in the pump. simple just run a drill bit through the orifice
and through the bushing. wash out the shavings and reassemble. just a heads up.

I’ve used water wetter and it helped. But the real solution is a clean radiator and block.
I don’t use antifreeze because I don’t need it, so I use radiator anti rust and water pump lubricant, from your local auto parts store.

I flushed the radiator and put in water and water wetter. Participated in a long 4th of July parade in and out of First gear. The temperature remained low and no overheating. Water wetter works better in plain water but will work with antifreeze. But with antifreeze the reduced temperature is not that much.

If you run straight water (I do) you must use an anti-rust and waterpump lubricant additive with the water. I do not use water wetter, but you can if you want to. I don't feel I need it.

This anti-rust additive is getting harder to find around here. I get it from NAPA, I think their part number MAC 1300. I put a healthy dose in and the water stays clear with a slight milky hue (but not rusty orange mess).

I use Water Wetter and distilled water in my A. I even make my own distilled water from my dehumidifier. I dump the whole solution in the winter. I don't know if it makes any difference but it makes me feel better, and the car has been happy for the last 29 years that I've had it.
