Default No holes in Pan Gasket

Replacing Pan gasket . Ordered it from a supplier and it came with everything needed to do the job. One thing the rail cork gasket had no holes. Is this normal?

Well low and behold there were some holes .. You could not see them until marking out to punch holes. Like some have said here there is holes.

Not normal but just use this permatex product and you wont need a gasket. I have used this on my last 4 oil pan removals and no leeks.

Send it back, or mark it and use a hole punch.

Look closely and bend it slightly and you will see the piece stayed with the gasket. I bought several in the past and they were described as you mentioned. I called the vendor and they explained it to me.

I would punch the holes out and use it.Maybe take a picture first, send it to the supplier so they could check for more like it.In the mid 70's we had a salesman that kept our shelves stocked with Purolator oil filters. All of a sudden we had a bunch that had no threads in the mounting hole.Bad batch. There was a story published years ago about Chevy Novas that had no valve stem holes in the wheels. It is a long explanation to type out,but if you find the story it explains how the tires are machine mounted and blasted with a preset number of cubic feet of air to seat and inflate.

What Dennis said. If not that, I keep a hole punch (from office supply) in my tool box. Put it on garage floor, lay pan over it, mark it, punch it.

I had a couple like that from Berts several years ago. I called to tell them, then laid it out , marked and punched.

I don’t think you guys read his post too carefully. He said there were holes . The cut centers were still in place . No big deal , pop then out.
It was cut. Very common with gaskets from time to time.

This is a good strategy on the part of the gasket maker. Partial punching ensures there is no punch offal clogging their machines and less waste for them to dispose.

The edit changed the flavor of all the responses. See how that works?

So you are saying the machine that removes the holes is paid $21.00/hr.
