Default 1948 Mercury speedometer

Want to set the odometer to zero. As opposed to the Ford speedometer where you remove the bezel and two screws on the back to access the mileage drum, the Mercury unit has no screws on the back and requires removing the bezel then the needle following with the speedo face. Question is how do you remove the needle? Carl

if all you want to do is change the needle position you dont have to remove it, just stop the drum that the needle shaft is connected to and twist the needle on the shaft, the needle is held to the shaft by interference fit, the hole in the needle is smaller than the shaft so it wont move on its own weight, if you want to remove the needle stop shaft from turning and grab the needle with two fingers and gently twist it back on forth as you pull up on it
