American pickers Model A question

Hey I heard people talking about the American pickers TV show and how they bought a Model A....Does anyone have a link for that show or the season # and episode #....I would love to see it...

It looked like a nice car for ~5k to me. It was a driver and not 100% correct, while they didn't think they could make money I think they probably did.

According to the way the show went, by the time they got the A home they had $7000.00 into it. But I figure they still had a $9000.00 to $10,000 car. Especially if either one of those 2 boobs have the mechanical abilities to make it run. I don't really care for those guys. I really can't put up with Frank. I might be able to take Mike. But I like the show because I get to see all the crazy stuff they pick up. As far as how they value it or all that I could care less. I seriously think they like to target some of the older people because they can take advantage of them. And I know if they came to my place I'd have to tell them they could look around but there's no way I could ever consider selling them anything. Except maybe that old '89 Mercury Cougar with 260,000 miles on it for around $20,000.00. I'd even let them keep the flat rotted tires that are on it. Hey Frank, Oh Frankie. C'mon Frank!

Oh man I forgot about them calling it a roadster. Now that was some funny stuff.

I would buy a car like that every day for $5000.00 If nothing else, it could be parted out for more than that. I also have a hard time watching the show. Those two guys are just a little too over the top for me.

Do you really think these guys just happen to drive a hundred miles and be the first one in the old barn in 40 years and the owners are will to sell to a strainger. You know the locals are onto this stuff and worry the crap out of people to buy.

If those guys weren't paid for the show, they'ld be broke. Their antics are fun to watch a couple of times, but cmon-they are more then a bit much! They know almost nothing.

Love when Pawn Stars have to cal in the "experts". What have those guys been doing all of their lives that they know nothing....?

I've got to watch it and struggle through it again just because I thought they bought the car for $6000.00 and paid $1000.00 to ship it home and you guys are all saying they paid $5000.00. Or is that what the "xpurt" valued it at.

I like to watch Pickers - it's the only one of the so called "reality shows" I do watch. All the others are full of bitching, fighting, snide comments, etc. and I don't find that entertaining.
Pickers (and the other shows) are all staged ahead of time for TV entertainment, but you do get to see some interesting people and their stuff.
If you think about the amount of stuff they buy and the overly optomistic values they put on most of it, you can see they couldn't make expenses without being paid for the show.

That's my first Model A in 1960 when I was in high school. The top was made out of white Naugahyde. Car was in primer, and there was no interior except seats. Had a great body with no rustout - would like to have it back today.

They're running up the price of everything. I've seen cars scrapped because the owners have literally died waiting for American Pickers or some other show to come and buy them.

I did like the episode where they referred to a Hudson Commodore (badge plainly visible on the show) as a Hornet.

I think that some people take that show too seriously. I just watch it sometimes for entertainment and nothing more.

I think sometimes they buy the junk and let the good stuff hang on the wall. I know most of it is staged, they pulled up to this garage one time and the owner came out yelling at them to get out they were tresspassing or something, when he was walking away from the camera you could see the mic tucked in his belt.

I watch it to see the stuff that they find. Much if not all the junk is planted for the show just like the pawn stars, and the storage locker people and the dramatics of the repo shows.

Wouldn't the show have to be carefully scripted and rehearsed? Wouldn't they otherwise run into a belligerent eccentric that would throw them off his premises?

I like the show, I consider it entertainment.I like seeing some of the stuff that they show. I saw the show with the sport coupe, and I didn't really expect Frank and Mike to know any more than the average person.

As for the sport coupe, It is one that if I had it, I wouldn't sell it for five thousand but on theother hand I sure wouldn't give five thousand for it. It had most of the extra do dads added. It had two chrome horns ,extra lights and cowl lights. I really think that cowl lights on the 28-29 cars that use the coupe pillar cowl posts really look out of place. As a bodyman, I cringe at the thought of having to repair the holes where the cowl lights were installed and having to remove all of the clown accessories. Not trying to upset anyone here. If you like all the bells and whistles then go for it. It is just a personal choice for me that I like for them to LOOK original and nothing more.

Come on ! It is a fun show to watch. It is contrived, though. They don't do "free-style" picking. They work off of leads.
There was a show from here in Daytona Beach, where they "free style" picked a "Pandora's Box", girly club, neon sign. About a week later, there was a story in our news-paper about it. The owner stated that an advance team was in two weeks before, but that day was the first time that they met Mike and Frank.
