Does anyone know when one of these last sold and for approx how much?
I have gathered many photos and information, but there isn't much out there to go by.
Would appreciate some input. Of course I would like to find one out there for sale, but that is a dream....

I think I recall one for sale a few years back on craigs list. Can't remember price 65k/165k? Not many out there so I'm sure someone knows better than me. One of our local club members has one and a taxi.

There was a ROUGH one on eBay for around $2,500 a few months ago, just the unique cowl section.

I think the cowl sold for 1.5k with the buy it now option. At first listing it was 2.5k reserve for rough chassis with rad hood cowl, and didn't sell. I inquired after first auction for him to sell only cowl, said no. Was relisted and sold before I knew.

Remember seeing a taxi body on ebay years ago in tough shape and it didn't sell for all that much....

I've seen two or three simulated Town Cars made from leather back Fordors. Unfortunately that's what they look like, simulated. There are just so many unique features in the construction of the Town car body that it shares almost nothing with any other model.

Timothy, you make some very good points. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to not only find a towncar, but to have any of the owners share about them. It is like dealing with a hidden cloister.
You state that in the end, it's probable that you could purchase a real Town Car and have less invested with less frustration. I wish that statement was true, and yes, then I would purchase an original.
Doesn't look like that will happen though. It appears I could more readily purchase a Mercer or Stutz then a Ford Town Car. Imagine that!

Wish I'd taken more photos. You can bet there was lots of critiqueing going on. I had never paid much attention to the Town Car details, so the imposter looked pretty darn good to me.

ronn, I'm drinking beer but I will try to be tactful. If you really want a Town Car, try to meet the people who have real ones. Eventually, circumstances change and things come for sale. These people know where real ones exist off the beaten path. When this happens, be ready to strike and don't quibble about price. I deal heavily with Henderson motorcycles and of well aware of other rare m/c marques. There are more 1912 Hens (the first year) existing now than 20 years ago. There are more eight valve OHV Harley Davidson racers in existence now than originally built thanks to repos. Eventually, people don't know what's real and what's Memorex.

It is an assumption on my part but you may be a person of means. If that is true, I suggest you look for another rare body style and restore (or have it restored) to a high standard whether you opt to show it or not. I came back to Model A's as I was tired of the forgeries creaping into motorcycles. I'm sorry to see it is sneaking into MAF's. This is just MHO.

Steve #2- thanks for the advice, but I am not a person of means, at least in my book. You have been very tactful and I appreciate the advice. Well, in the last couple of hours I have been able to gather enough information to know that I will never own a "real" TC. It seems the going price is in the 200k range. (see- I have no means! )
If I had that kind of $, it wouldn't be to buy a model A, believe me when I say they are fun, but certainly that is beyond a stretch. My ar phaeton will be just fine at a 20th of the cost!

I looked at the pictures Steve posted of the "imposter" Town Car at the 2006 Grand Rapids Meet. It is a very nice looking car. Here are a few things that I noticed that identify it as an imposter. There are likely many others that can not be viewed in these pictures.

I hate to tell you but that has been in the MAF's for quite a long time. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more Deluxe optioned cars on the road now than were built.

Sadly you are commenting to someone who is no longer with us to further explain their comment however I think if you could of had the opportunity to have known Steve, you would have considered it a real treat to view his collection of all original, unmolested Model-As, ...and I suspect that was his true meaning in his comment. Steve was no stranger to the Model-A hobby and was well educated in the Model-A world.
