Default Question Regarding Shortened Emergency Brake Handle

I am helping a friend install an air conditioner in his Model A and the emergency brake handle interferes with the evaporator handle. Does anyone know if you can purchase a shortened brake handle?

Thanks for your help.

Bob

Hmmmm....
if this is a Ken Davis kit, he supplies a special bracket that tilts the ebrake handle back some to clear the evap.

I know of no one else supplying such kits.

You would have a dickens of a time setting an ebrake with a shortened handle

This is a Ken Davis kit and the installation has gone well. I am aware of the bracket you speak of and it was in the kit. What I did not mention is the his Model A has a transmission out of a 50's Ford Pickup and the bracket included in the kit will not work as furnished. I was hoping that we might find a source for a shortened brake handle. It would only need to be an inch shorter to clear the evaporator housing.

Thanks for your input.

Bob

Ken is familiar with that tranny setup, a lot of Dallas members have it. He prolly has a workaround for you. I would contact him directly; he tries hard to be helpful. If you have the kit then you have his contact info.
here is his website with contact info

I purchased a repo brake lever and cut it down enough to clear. I cut it down and a friend with a welder welded it for me. The weld is covered by the rubber boot. It works very well.

I cut a 3 1/4" section from the lower end of the handle and welded the handle in place.
Cut the same amount from top of the rod, drilled a new hole for the pin holding the button on. Reassembled and installed.
This is on a F150 transmission. Amount to remove might vary slightly on Model A transmission. Measure first.

Bob
The '32 hand brake assembly is the same as a Model A except for the ratchet. The '32 ratchet lowers the handle about an inch or may be even a little more.

You will have to be a little more specific about the transmission. If it is a later top shifter type, the Early V-8 Garage in West Covina, Ca. (626) 338-2282 makes a bracket that bolts to the transmission. The hand brake assembly will bolt to that bracket.
