$3500 to $4500, depending on what type of after market parts on it, manifold, heads, carbs, water pumps, oil pump

I really think that's on the high side. That's what it cost to build. Sadly, that doesn't directly translate to a sale price.

Too many factors and a lot of trust goes into buying a done motor off a private seller.

Plus, many folks would want to put some performance parts in while they are doing a complete rebuild.

I wish you a lot of luck, but don't expect a dollar for dollar return on the sale.

To me, a lot would depend on the receipts, etc. that would come with the engine; less documentation, less money.

I'm on the same page. Having paperwork beats word of mouth. Too many people burned on "rebuilds" that didn't amount to more than a rattle can overhaul.

For that kind of money, l'll have one rebuilt myself and know what went into it exactly.

Most of us DIY guys want to know first hand what everything looks like in there so we tend to stick with rebuilding engines on our own with the aid of a decent machine shop. It is expensive enough as it is. Warranty on a high dollar rebuild is what I call an "Out of Sight Warranty". Out of sight, out of warranty. If a person pays the big bucks and has problems with it, they are going to be very unhappy.
