Stromberg 67 97 carb vs the large 97 stromberg carb
Can someone tell me what year a Stromberg 67 97 carb goes to?
What is the difference in the 67 97 carb versus the large 97 stromberg carb? Thank You! |

Stromberg 67 ?? Do you mean the 48 stromberg ?
The 81 flows125 cfm The 97 flows 155 cfm The 48 flows 180 cfm The new big stromberg 97 flows 250cfm. At a quick glance all these carbs look the same. Last edited by my4dv8; 02-23-2016 at 06:59 PM. |

Re: Stromberg 67 97 carb vs the large 97 stromberg carb
tb,
It is my understanding the small logo 97 is the carb installed by Ford on the cars as they made their way down the assembly line. The large logo 97's were service replacement parts. As I understand, genuine Ford dealers and service centers were encouraged , shall I say , by Ford to replace the part with a factory remaufactured part and not rebuild the suspected offending part in house. 97's were introduced in mid '36 and ushered out sometime in '38. Hi, I was told that the 67 97 small logo were first installed on the commercials in the early years by FORD and then later the large 97 logo were installed on the cars.

Re: Stromberg 67 97 carb vs the large 97 stromberg carb
The 67 is cast on small 97 carbs, at top edge of main body right above the 97 and right above that on lower edge of air horn. It is the part number prefix for the carb, 67-9510.
I used to believe that this meant that the large 97 carbs were later production carbs made after the 97 was in use on new cars, but then someone pointed out that the overhaul instructions in the service bulletins (I think 1938 date) showed not only big 97 bodies but arrow-Ford 94 type bases, which I had thought were from 1950's replacement Strombergs! Looks like both logos go all the way back, but the small 97 died out early on. Charlie's explanation seems entirely plausible. |
