Everything going good till we put fan in,blades are about 2 inches to long, hit hose,,shorter belt won't help.didn't want to remove btm pulled and put old fan on like 41,,,, engine has not been started yet ,didn't know about seal ,how it would do if pulling and putting in old pulley. Don't really want a electric fan,,does any one make a adapter to move 8ba fan down a little to clear hose????? What's best solution????thanks

How about a picture of the front of your intake manifold where the generator mounts? How long are your fan blades?

Everyone has their own solution for this common problem, this is mine. You must have a '40 fan mount pulley to start with. Remove 15/16" from the seal end of the '40 pulley hub, then drill the 3 or 4 spot welds from the pulley, then tap the pulley from the hub, turn the pulley around (reverse) and reinstall on the hub this time close to the fan hub. Put the assembly back on the crank snout and line the pulley up with the water pump pulleys (about 2-7/8" from the backside of the pulley to the machined face of the block), tap it square and reweld the spots. The pulley fits on the hub tight enough to hold its position while you do this. Next remove the new pulley and reinstall the 8ba pulley, bring the timing mark up to the pointer, without rotating remove the 8ba pulley, install the '40 and put a mark on the pulley where the pointer is. Probably file a notch there, after all this " aint no rocketship". This has worked for me a couple of times and no lathe required.

I,m not sure if 41 is same as 1947
I did a 8ba last year and this is what I did.
This pulley maybe 50 mercury or ford.
Looks like the rivet were drilled out and was able to bolt a flex fan.
There is about 1" from rad. and looks how far the shaft is to block.

raising the radiator looks like the way to go ,just make sure hood will clear that's my 41 w/8ba in coopmans picture,8ba crank modified to take 41 fan, works ok but heats up in traffic, fan is too small too low to move air,im going with a 49 ford setup and raising the rad in the spring ,,let us know how you make out
