As for the Merc engines, I;d check the crankshaft, a re grindable merc crank is worth 300 up. Cut the rods off with a torch or saw all and check the crank. Soak the pistons in 50/50 mix for a week or so. DO NOT beat the pistons out, you might crack a good cylinder. 52/53 blocks have no harden seats, so make good race motors. Add seas for the exhaust for street. Coupla grand later you'll have a fine running engine

I going get the pic it is ford only not mercury
the mercury is stuck he wants 500.00 for it I bought couple mercury cranks one was .020 on both the shop said it would not clean up with .030 so I took it back and he gave me one more and it turn .020 but he said it would be good for a stock motor had a hair line crack in it I sold that and give up on it at that time that why I'm going new this time I ordered my new crank today should be here on Tuesday |

The pickups got the 8BA style motor in 48, so the guy selling it hadn't made a mistake.
