Default '34 Ford with a fixed windshield ?

I ran across this on the auction site and thought it looked odd.

In what way? Fire wall should be body color if stock.

He's right - somebody screwed with the whole windshield area - that is not like any 34 windshield that I've ever seen? The worst part (in my opinion), is that it looks a lot worse than the original.

Also, did you notice that it has a Filled Roof, doing away with the original insert?
Judging from the photo of the rear side window, the body seems like it could be a Victoria, but I may be wrong?

Something is also wrong with the forward vent area. Butchers will go to any extreme to do their mods.

Someone has modified that car.
Maybe an aborted hot rod conversion, of just the world worst auto restorer.
Glad you didn't buy it!
I hate when people screw around with these beautiful cars!!
And Those hot rodders should really confine themselves to fiberglass reproduction bodies and reproduction chassis, and stop butchering classic cars.

The body looks Ford but the windshield looks l a lot like a Hupmobile or a Willys car of that era.

I think the whole front of the top down to the cowl has been grafted on from something else, looks like there is too much metal under the windshield. Ugly. I think a 34 cabriolet had a fixed windshield but that aint it.

Not sure what is going on, for one thing the black paint from the firewall extends around the cowl area a couple of inches which creates an optical illusion that adds to the odd looks. Also the area around the windshield was more material than an original, especially in the window post area. And the window post gets larger toward the top. Someone has put a lot of work into something that ended up not looking that good in the end! I would have to agree that it looks like a new top has been added to at least the forward windshield part of the roof. It looks similar to a truck/pickup windshield area.

I had a car like that and all they have done is filled the lower corners to take a caravan type window rubber .compere the top of the screen with Board and stroke's picture and it looks the same . its the filled roof that makes it look a little different .I would say a good potential project . here's it on EBay

The winshield looks similar to a '35-'36 Ford pickup.

Interesting that the ebay information is listing it as a "restored" car in progress. It most likely is salvageable and may have a lot of good parts with it, but the term restoration in progress seems a bit much.

Looks almost like somebody got real happy with a bunch of bondo/filler of some sort and molded that windshield in. The dash isn't screwed up on the inside, so it might just be something that needs to be all taken out - and the original metal 'might' just be under it. Who knows on the top.

The whole area above the windshield is more bulbous than a 34 - makes me think a bunch of metal was added in from a 'donor' car of some sort. That is what scares me about it.

Without going and seeing the car first hand - really tough to know how bad of a hack job all these 'modifications' are. Might not be bad to redo them back to original - or there could be all sorts of evil lurking!

Wish I was out in CA . . . would go look.

Could it be a Hupmobile? It seems like the cowl vent extended into the hood on a Hup(?)

I wonder also if it is not a Hup body. Know that the 34 Hups were nearly identical to Ford and maybe it extended to 37s.

Here is a Street Beast Vicky. Note the windshield opening
is similar to original, the wipers are mounted in the cowl.

Looking at that ebay listing and the parts is exhausting.. What a load of work someone has to create a reasonable car from that stuff.

Some see the basket as 1/2 Empty
Some see the basket as 1/2 Full

There have been many a car built, starting with a lot worse.
That Vicky is definitely worth resurrecting, and hopefully the
right person will build a nice car out of that.

Murray made bodies for Ford and Hupmobile as well as a few others in that time frame. Someone may have made a trip to the salvage yard to do repairs but it's hard to say. The Hup rear end was different on the Victoria. I don't know if they had a tudor sedan or not that might have been more similar. They did have suicide doors so the A pillars were very similar. The coupes are hard to tell apart too but they are a bit different.

Here is a pic of a 1933 Hupmobile.
Windshield has a similar shape, to the '34 Ford listed in original post,
but not the same, also wipers are different.

The Packard sign is for a car that is next to this Hupmobile.

Attached are 2 pictures of Hupmobile Coupes. With regards to the Red 34 Coupe, a country hot rodder stumbled on this Coupe Body in his travels, and as it was a Coupe, he dragged it home. Much to his amazement, it bolted right up to a 1934 Ford Frame that he had. His next discovery was the sheet metal from his 1934 Ford also bolted right up. After investigations, he found out that he had found a Hupmobile Coupe body. What is unusual with these Hupmobiles, is that they used the Doors from the Cabriolet. The Glass has a frame, not the door. It is close to the Ford Three Window, but different.
The bottom picture shows the Hupmobile Coupe, as it was delivered from the Factory. Notice that the front Windscreen opens on the Hupmobile. The Hupmobile that Lanny posted is from a different series of Hupmobiles.

The ad says it has a trunk lid. The '33 does NOT have a trunk lid,
but the '34 Vicky does have a trunk, so it must be a '34.

There is a picture of the trunk lid, plus 34 type grilles, both new and original. So probably a 34.

It has the hood rest dimples on the top of the firewall and the web in the door window so it's a 34.
