Default Crop circle belivers, read this!

If you think Drano poured in a plugged sink will clear drains, or metal mend fixes cracked blocks, or politicians will make our world a better place.
Then a flush of vinegar in your radiator will clean out 80 years of grease and rust and mineral scale.

Yeeaah! Hopefully the rad and system have been flushed more than once in 80+ years. Maybe Not! But I advise caution in this regard. I dumped some in my rad. and opened a whole passle of problems' Here's how, Evidently the tubes in my rad. were getting old and thin from too much acidic tap water and my addition of more acid with vinegar (about 5%) was too much for tubes so thin and they acquired some leaks it didn't have before. To stop the leaks, I put in a little of Bardal's Stop Leak and this plugged up the tubes even more than they might have been. It was running great! Why did I fix it? I thought I could make it run just that much better!

I thought you were going to tell us crop circles were casued by Model A's doing donuts in the field.

If the radiator tubes are plugged solid, then nothing short of removing the tanks and rodding it out will work. Of course I have seen those little gremlins on TV that chomp away on grease and dirt in the drain, so maybe they will eat the junk in the Model A radiator.

tim your correct it usually will cause a whole slew of other issues on an old cooling system...
its sorta like peeing in the wind or eating yellow snow..
the best ones are where no problem exsists and someone feels preventative maintenance is in order...
the most i would do on an old system that is not running hot is drain, refill and not break loose internal garbage with cleaning agents...

Hey tim,
Look at IT another way, i.e.- it radiator tubes have 'scale/rust' to the point of impairing its' primary function.....where is all that scale, etc coming from !
I'd think to remove the source of the contamination (block/head) and work forward to how bad of a radiator condition exists. A newly cored radiator can get plugged tubes from a crud filled/rusted head/block. If a bandaid approach is used first/only (vinegar)..then ??

I bought a new radiator but sure didn't want to install it only to have it clog with rust and scale out of the engine. I removed the head and used some metal rods to clean out the engine passages.

Did you get a lot of "gunk" and chunks of rust out?
Guess what I'm asking is...was it worth taking the engine half apart?
And what were your results afterwards?
Do you have any pics of that dirty deed?

smart move::
beats clogging a 700 new rad and ending up with the same issue

Hey Henry,
That's what I'm talking about , good on you ! This 'hobby' is tooo expensive for most of us, than to throw new stuff at a problem without solving the problem first.
I've recently taken huge amounts of rust/scale out of flathead blocks, mainly in and around the REAR cylinders. It this practice is not thought of and/or done, it will let you know sooner than later.
