Default Diode Wiring

I converted my cutout to a diode. Just wondering if all wiring should be connected as the original.

I've installed the diodes like Bratton sells as well as the style that Snyder sells and the doide installed cutouts hooked up exactly as they did as a cut out. I did run the cars that I used them with on positive ground as original.

Does anyone have a spec on the diode? Any number on the diode itself would help. Thanks.

It should be rated for at least 40 volts and 15 amps, plus you will need a good heat sink for it, or you can buy one ready made from the vendors.

I didn't pay any attention to numbers on the diodes I just figure with vendor prices at around six dollars from Brattons and three dollars from Snyders that its not likely that a better price could be found, especially with installation instructions for the hobby guy. I have just installed these diodes acording to the instructions supplied. There is no mention of a heat sink being needed in the instructions. I have run a Brattons diode in the cutout of my 31 tudor for 14 years without incident. The advantage of a diode is there is no points to stick and kill the battery or damage the generator. The generators that I have used diodes on charge the same as if a points style cutout was used and I have had no problems with diodes overheating when installed as the instructions recommend. A diode cutout doesn't give voltage regulation, it only removes the risk of sticking points.
