Default Carburetor rebuild success-What I did.

I am normally on this site to get answers to my many A problems. But now I have a success that would maybe help someone else. So thought I would take your time and talk about it.

I had a Zenith-1 carb on my coupe that ran OK except when I came to a stop sign. Then the engine died.

So I found Tom Endy's method of rebuilding a carb and set about rebuilding one of my extra Zenith carbs. I took it all apart, took out all of the jets (except I could not figure how to get the cap jet out) and cleaned it like Tom recommends. After doing his method, I then blew out everything with air and use some WD 40 on the idling passage and put it back together with some new gaskets. I did not check all the jets for proper sizes so I gambled a bit on that part of a rebuild. I also did not do all the steps Tom recommended but just the ones I mentioned above. Guess I lucked out with a fairly good carb to start with. Now the car does not die at a stop sign, starts easy, has more power, and runs like a new one. Sorry Steve (at Bert's) about this but I may still need to get one of yours. My handy work sometimes does not last!

The site below is where Tom's procedure is stored. If you have a reasonable good carb, it should do the job for you. Hope I have not bored you all with my ramblings.

Fred, it helps to have a special deep-seated hex wrench to remove the cap jet, though I have done it with a small adjustable wrench as well as with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Thanks Ray. I sat down and looked at a vendor's catalog and noticed one of these. Maybe next order I will have to get one.

If you need to borrow one, I can bring mine to the meeting next week.

Hey! I just notice this is my post 1928. The next three better be good!

Thanks Ray for the offer but I think I will order one-they are not to bad price wise and I have a couple of carbs to rebuild.

I have used Tom's procedures many times and I have had great success with them.
