Re: Starting with a Tillotson Model X Carb?
unhook the fuel line going into the carb first and check the flow to the carb. Bob

Re: Starting with a Tillotson Model X Carb?
Seems to be steady as that is how I drained the fuel tank, but I know I am getting a small amount of sediment into the sediment bowl. The fuel valve needs replaced anyway so I figure I am only spending money that would be spent later anyway, while I am at it I will add the in tank strainer.

Re: Starting with a Tillotson Model X Carb?
You made sure all the passages were clear by spraying cleaner and blowing thru them.. Where were the GAV and idle mixture settings?? If all this, and the fuel flow, is good then maybe you have a heck of an air/vacuum leak somewhere..

Quote:
The GAV was 1-1.5 open and the idle screw was at 3/4 open (to start). Even hot the engine would not start with these settings. I had to pull out to about 7/8 choke to get it to fire, it would then start to run and I would advance the timing until it started to smooth out. Then I would try to close the choke and it would sputter and stall. I can't find the danged vacuum leak if I have one.

Re: Starting with a Tillotson Model X Carb?
Next time you have the engine running spray some WD40 around where the exhaust and intake manifold runners meet the gasket at the engine block side. Listen for the sound of the engine to change. If it does you might have a bad exhaust/intake manifold gasket or possibly mismatched manifolds that need to be surfaced while bolted together. Also check both manifolds for cracks which may occur when they have been running red hot.

If the exhaust system is clogged with vermin, would it not be difficult to keep it running and get the exhaust red?

I am with Russel , I watched your video and that pipe is too hot , I would drop it and try running it , see how it runs .
If not you are very lean or timing is off . Pop's just a thought . |

Re: Starting with a Tillotson Model X Carb?
I do not mean to Hijack the thread, but I do not have a carb. Which carb is historically accurately original to a 29 A, Tilly or Zenith 1???
