Re: 46-48 popularity
I like the 46 and early 47 better because of the Park lights and the body moulding, smaller with groves, the red on the dash and gauges, the hood ornament, the trunk moulding and other little things that just set it apart..

Re: 46-48 popularity
46's are my favorite too. The gauges, trim, grill, parking lights, red detail paint, just looks cooler to me than the late 47-48's.

Re: 46-48 popularity
When I was 15 I bought a 48 convertible out of Ferrils Auto Wrecking for $150. It was in good shape and I drove it all through high school. I loved that car so much that in 1988 I bought a rusted out junker 1946 ford Conv and spent 8 years building it. It is stock bodied, but runs a 3/4 8Ba with a C-4 and 3.25:1 gears. Great highway car. I have earned some trophys with it and came in first in my class at a major show. Then I got the itch and had to add a 36 cabriolet to the collection. Again, it was a rusted out junker. I should have learned on the first one. It took 10 years to build, but it is every bit as nice as the 46. I love driving both of them and they both get thumbs up and waves. Nothing ugly about either one and they both drive as nice as my grocery getter with the exception that they are both easy on the eyes.

Re: 46-48 popularity
See i like the 47 48 b.c of the parking lights and smooth chrome. i had a 46 that needed a lot of work but decided to upgrade to something more solid and running. Like i said i like the 42 and 41 also. I am amazed at how you can find a nice 41 for what good project 40's go for. my favorite is still a 39 deluxe which i have but needs a lot of attention.41-48 business coupes rock though

Re: 46-48 popularity
Like a few of us on the barn, I've got some years so, my first Ford was a ' 30 Model A 2dr. in 1951,- 2nd a '35 2 dr.- 3rd. '40 Merc 2dr. ( not too pretty) -4th. a '47 Merc. conv. in 1952,- 5th "54 Sunliner, -6th 1956 Merc custom Conv. new in '56 (after Navy) and so on and so forth. I have had 17 Fords up till now. Thought I always wanted a '40 Ford Conv. Then I found one, sat in it and turned it down. Too Narrow and confining in front seat. Longed for my favorite other dream car again, a '48 Merc. conv. I found it in 2000. to own one is to love one! They are so pretty. Every show I attend spectators gather round and give me thumbs up. I've had grown ups take pictures in her and several parents wanted pictures of their children in her. The women especially think the '41's through '48 Ford and Merc's are the prettiest of all, And the Smithy sound,? faggedaboudit! Although I've got her for sale, it's not because I don't still LOVE her! As a matter of fact I had the wife of a (excuse me) Chevy owner chase me down the road a few weeks ago wishing her hubby would buy it for her! Oh well! As Ken Ct. says, "OMO." Try it you'll like it!

Re: 46-48 popularity
Please tell me about your wheels to accomodate the fatter tires. I want to do that for the daily driving and save the original 6.00X16 wide whites for special occasions. Sorry, I realized that it didn't address the person. I had asked the qiestion for Digger.

Re: 46-48 popularity
There are opinions, opinions and more opinions ....so here's mine...there is no such thing as an ugly old Ford!! I personally like every single one of them. They are all beautiful!! If I were a wealthy man, I would like to own at least one of every year and model...bar none. I would drive a different one each day. Any day I can be looking at or driving an old Ford is a good day for me.

Re: 46-48 popularity
The 46-48 Ford are by far my favorite car, starting with the 46 long door coupe, then the 2-door sedan - Don't know why just do - Just like trying to explain why you like Big Legged Women
