How does the drum tail light mount on a 1928 model a pickup?
Hello All
I have a 1928 Model A pickup I am currently working on. The previous owner installed the later style teacup light on the fender. I壇 like to go back to the original style drum light. I知 not 100% familiar with the drum lights on pickups. Did they mount on the fender? Or is it mounted on the bed? I know there痴 a bracket that is sold, so I知 assuming it mounts under the bed? Also if anyone has a good used one for sale let me know too Thanks Patrick |

Patrick,
Not knowing just where your pickup bed lands in the scheme of assembly in 1928, there were three (3) ways of attaching the taillight bracket to the bed. The first way was SOP thru May 1928. Not sure of the true attachment to the Pickup Bed...Maybe Charles Reese can show a photo of his early Pickup Bed and the attachement of the taillight bracket. The second way was May 1928 thru October 1928. Here the taillight bracket was attached to a metal plate that was riveted in four places to the pickup beds left side frame member just behind the rear fender. It had three holes for attachment of the taillight bracket. And the third way was October 1928 thru June 1930. The metal plate was removed from the frame of the bed and the taillight bracket was attached to a wooden block that was attached to the pickup bed with bolts I think. There should be holes in your bed for this attachment if they were not filled in by the previous owner. Dan Partain has some great photos of these two attachments. What bed do you have? Pluck |

Bob already posted my photo of the earlier bracket, so here are some additional photos of later tail lights and brackets -DAN

No evidence of the "L-shaped bracket" or its attachment - although the original teacup type bracket was found in the passenger side pocket of the cab (unit had been converted over to teacup along with TwoLight Headlights using the original "Type H" shells.) I imagine variation exists. Joe K
