Default 1936 ford

I have just finished putting a 8 ba in my 36 ford only big problem is what do you do for a fan? with the distributor up on top it moves every thing forward and I cant find a fan set up that will clear the radiator. I am using the truck wide belt pumps. Any advise or suggestions would be a great help.

Was just talking to a flathead guru today about this. We were talking about building an 8BA and what it would fit in to for years.
This is what he said...
We'll say you wanted install an 8BA into a 36-48. the best way to do that is use a 59AB cam and a crab dist and the 59 water pumps, You can use either heads..

Youre probably way past the point of doing that though..
Only other option might be electric fan but I'm no expert.
Someone else will chime in im sure.

If my memory serves me correctly, the stock 8BA truck fan should work very well..
See attached pix of an 8BA engine in my friends '37 pickup..
Of course the best option might be one of the electric fan/shroud assemblies..

Folks have used all sorts of different combinations and fabrications to get a fan in the cars with the backward leaning radiators. The original type fan on generator is one that isn't too bad but I've also seen custom made fan set ups that run on a waterpump spindle bearing from the after market aluminum fan mounts that used to be available. This requires an offset generator mount and can require custom made pulley sheaves. Some of the modified distributors I've seen will clear the fan belt on an early type pump application. The HAMB has all sorts of different combinations posted on there but you have to search a while to find them.

In a coupe, as you probably know, the rad is tilted back....I think it's straight up and down in the pickup, right?

You're correct......it does lean back in a passenger car........big problem space-wise, especially the higher up the fan is mounted.

The picture below is of an 8BA in a '36 coupe. The fan mount has obviously been built from scratch, but looks like it uses some factory Ford fan mount parts mounted from the original GENERATOR mounting spot on the front of the intake manifold. The belt is driven by a double-shieve pulley mounted on the alternator. Looks like a lot of thought went into this one, yet looks relatively simple in concept. DD
