Actually, vinegar really did dissolve some scale in my radiator. Washing powder removed the grease.

Tom, didn't you get good results from vinegar in the radiator?

If the radiator tubes are plugged solid, then nothing short of removing the tanks and rodding it out will work. Of course I have seen those little gremlins on TV that chomp away on grease and dirt in the drain, so maybe they will eat the junk in the Model A radiator.

Yes, 30 days of running vinegar, then a backflush of the block and radiator by using my sump pump did a good job of rust removal. Had I known how much rust was laying in the engine I'd have removed the head before installing it. Then I could have mechanically removed the rust from the block. In the long run it would have saved time.

If you search "radiator mess" you should be able to find the thread on my vinegar treatment.

Goes without saying that each case/car is unique in that vinegar might help for just the right length of time where as others it might cause damage... Or to put it another way a 10lbs sledge hammer in the right hands might be the proper tool, in other hands you may wish to get the heck out of the way...

My Cabriolet was looking like a teakettle a month ago so I backflushed it then put a couple of tablespoons of washing soda in three gallons of water and ran it, at an idle, for about 15 minutes, then backflushed it again. It's running at 150 degrees at the top of the radiator now. Didn't use vinegar, but happy with the results.
