I agree with those who say spend the money and buy the good one.

8N ford tractor basicly had a Model A engine until the over head valve engine came out for them in the Jubilee editions in 1953.

My son in law has a large pipe bender and made this exhaust stack for me for free. Its one piece and larger diamether pipe, It fit the manifold better. Doesn't sound like an original but I like it. This one had a stack on it when I got it in the spring if 1960. The first one was pieced together and didn't last very long.

The only thing an 8N and Model A engine have in common is the fact that they are both 4 cylinder flatheads. Different bore, stroke, cam, timing, distributor and carb. The 8N is actually related to an early truck engine.

I was always under the impression that the 8N engine was pretty much just half of a V-8.

That is a more accurate presumption in that the bore and stroke is the same as the 239 Flathead. So pistons, rods would in theory be interchangeable. However the compression ratio is different, I am not sure if that is due to head configuration or Piston Crown. The Distributor on the 8N (up to 1950) is tucked up into the front of the motor in back of the fan so the Valve Train is different. Note that the 8n also used inserts, not Babbitt, further differentiating it from the A.

I think that was with the Aries muffler, not a straight pipe.

I want my model A Ford to sound just like a model A Fords that I heard as a kid. I grew up with A Fords when most of the people were still driving the model A Ford as their second car. That was back when you knew what make and year the car was driving by, just by its exhaust sound. Unfortunately, not so today as they all sound the same. I will always use the stock mufflers and pipes to try to duplicate that unique model A cackle that the Model A Ford exhaust made.

i liked the original sound much better over the aries in the video but maybe without a side by side comparison the aries would not be to bad.

I went back and looked again. I missed most of it the first time. I liked the old muffler sound best. The Aries sounded too quiet, sorta like a glass pack. My gutted fifty dollar facsimile muffler sounds like the old muffler in the video, but is a little louder and gives a boost with the baffles removed.

Has anyone done this? Chief cut the front bell off a stock muffler, gutted it out, & welded it on BACKWARDS, like a MEGAPHONE!!!!!!

I think the whole idea of the tapered model a muffler is like an expansion chamber,
the hot exhaust expands and needs the additional room at the front of the muffler
and as it cools down it shrinks down and goes out the back
