Default Brake drums

What month in 1931 did Ford go to cast iron drums? Mine was built in April and has the tinny metal ones

According to the Judging Standards, August 1931 was the introduction date for the cast iron drums.

Yes, late in 1931 Ford used cast iron drums. I have a pair of fronts that came off an old homemade trailer that are still standard, never have been turned. 32 on up used cast iron drums. These were all 12 inch dia. drums. The '32 - '34 drums looked just like the late '31 drums except one inch larger.

32-34 front brakes can be installed on a model A with no modifications. The result is more braking on the front axle where it is needed and better overall brakes. The trick is to find good usable '32-34 drums which are not being reproduced.

I just recently put 35 drums and backing plates on my 31 coupe. As stated above, 32-34 is a bolt on, and 35's need a bearing spacer. Not a big deal. And you get a real seal on the inner bearing, and the thread on dust cap too. Just hard to find good drums
