Default 29 roadster pickup top

What do I need to do to fit a 29 roadster top to my 29 roadster pickup.I am sure some one has already done such a deed. I would like to avoid mistakes.

so Ron- what do you have? the original, which is stationary and self explanatory or the
fold down generic sold by Speedway and such?

I am trying to put an original 29 roadster folding top on my 29 roadster pickup. Useing the original mounting points for the roadster top the top protrudes over and in front of the windshield by about 3 to 4 inches . Thanks for your help in advance.

Ronn is correct in that they don't look correct.

Below is a drawing that Marco made years ago showing the difference between the 76A and the 40A bodystyles to describe the seating room differences. As a part of that drawing, it also shows the difference in top iron positions and the length differences between the two decks. IMO, you would be better to start from scratch fabbing a top vs. trying to adapt.

Speedway does sell an after mkt top, that can be made to fit-doesnt look bad, but certainly not correct either.

The irons would be better if they were fabricated in similar fashion to the 30/31 roadster to make life easier. The header above the windshield may need to be fabricated to fit there. There may need to be a support to prop the top when it's folded down. There's not much to hold it back there.

Thanks to all that replied . At least I still have my good original top. wish it had worked better. I drove over a thousand miles to pick it up as the seller would not ship it. Lesson learned

What do you mean by,I wish it had worked better.Originals didn't fold or do anything except get nailed on in place.Or,did you mean you wished it would fold down. There is a 28 around here with a roadster top on it.He mounted a board about 10 inches wide in place of the wood across the back of the cab.The rear top fabric is tacked to it,and it gives him a 10 inch package shelf inside, but it is uglier than a stump fence.

Ron,
Show us your top, please. I made my own fixed top by marrying the top sketches. My wife liked the C cab look. I don’t like the bare poles and moved the C about 6 inches forward, covering the pole as well as the side mounting bolts. It is obviously a removable, but not fold down top.

Chris, sold my rpu a little over a yr ago. It had the correct fixed top.
I have seen several rpu's witht he after mkt fold down top from the likes of Speedway and if youre not a purist, they dont look bad. also there is the fact that yes, they fold down. Pretty convenient.

Not a folding top as mine is original, but I have snaps that hold my top to the back of the cab that can be unsnapped and then the top irons can be disconnected from the two side attachments and tipped over into the bed or left at home. Really a quick fix and other than the snaps, no modifications.

Where can you get a folding top and bows for a 31 pickup?

I am going to modify the roadster top to fit and look good. By sectioning the front piece that supports the front bow and shortening. the upright that attaches to the body.sounds like a plan. I will document the procedure and take volumes of pictures and post on this forum. thanks to all for your input.
