Is there any value in a teapot carb that would be a rebuildable core? I have one and if not I'm going to throw it away. I'll never have a need for it.

Which teapot carb do you have ? Like the one pictured on the '53 Merc. or loke the 885F model that was posted ? Or a later 4 barrel teapot ?
I may be interested in buying it, depending which one and how complete it is.
I generally pay around $50 or slightly more for a rebuidable core.

Thanks, Sal

Sal, you are right it is confusing, I have seen at least 2 other early '51 Merc's like mine with the choke on the carb. I am pretty sure that I am the 3rd owner on my car, I have paper work showing all owners and proper history . I am fairly confident that it has never had the carb and manifold changed.

It looks to me like someone replace the original with a electric choke.

Ralph, it looks like it was added to ground something. It's not original.
I guess it was a handy spot to use at the time.

I have a divorced choke set up on my '51 and it was easy to set up and works fine. I have a Merc manifold with the regular choke on he carb on the engine on my test stand. It also works well. From my experience, Ford had this well under control back then.

My thought too when I saw it on the side of the carb.
