Default '34 drive shaft

I'm beginning to put together my newly restored parts . In installing the drive shaft into the torque tube. I find play between the snap ring and the speedo drive gear. No, I didn't forget the spacer behind the drive gear next to the bearing. Would there be any reason NOT to add another spacer behind the drive gear to take up this space?? That's about how much play there is! A little too much play for my thinking.
Thanks,

The play shouldn't be a big problem there. The spacer behind the gear is designed to let lubricant move through to a certain degree so the bearing can continue to be lubricated. You don't want to block the passages. If you put a small OD spacer in there, make sure your gears have good mesh and the holes are open on the bearing spacer. The speedo gear has very little load on it so if your play is only in the .030" or .040" range it would likely be as good as Ford made it.

Kerby,
Thanks for the come-back on the spacer info request. I was thinking about using a second thrust washer, with holes in it too, to take up the play. But maybe this is not good because the holes may not line up enough to allow grease to get to the bearing. You're probably right, a small diameter spacer would be better allowing the holes to be open.
Thanks for the thought!

It is typical there is some movement of the drive shaft speedometer gear, it does not create any problems.
