When driving with a Columbia you have to plan a head for hills.
You get a good running start before you get to big hill. You don't
get half way up then give it more power, it's to late and you will
have to down shift. G.M.

G.M. made a post many years ago about using a Ford 350 truck fuel tank switch to control the Columbia. You might try and search for his post or try and contact George. I'll look and see if I can find the pictures he posted Dave/Green Bay

I have finally collected all I need to make the Columbia for my model A, I have a 46 style one already, nos33-34 axles will end up the same width as 32, and A, grafting both outer ends of A housings to the later center, the same would work for 32.
The later housing is larger in diameter at the axle tubes, using a front part of torque tube from a late tube can give you a graceful reduction in diameter for the Columbia housing, starting with a 35-36 bell would have a compatible diameter for the non Columbia side to make it pretty.
I have one more experiment, I am going to cut off the scallop on the banjo and put a solid ring to make it look like early banjo, would still have to shorten it some, it would allow the use of original torque tube.
For controlling I have a 46 set that can be hidden, they are electric , and have a 40 Ford convertible top vacuum switch
They did make a 34 Columbia, I have seen pictures, and once a long time ago at flea market.

To answer your last question, yes.Several pgs devoted to that accessory in the '33-34 V8 Club restoration book.

I am using a 50's GM truck 2sp vac button and shift valve on my 34's. The valve goes under the floor and is anchored to the trans top and the button and cable is attached to the shift rod below your shift knob. Works great and does not require a mod to an original car.

Putting a Later Columbia (post 1934 to 1948) is no different than installing a later conventional banjo rear in a 32.
The Columbia uses the original Ford center section and torque tube, left housing, spring and axles.
Whatever Torque Tube you use it must be shortened to the proper length.
Same with the inner driveshaft.
The length will be different than the late 32 style because the 35 to 48 center sections are different. Both wider and longer.
You can use the straight spring as long as you modify the spring or the rear crossmember to accommodate for the change from the curved one.
Putting later Ford rears in 32 Fords has been done countless times over the decades.
There's lots of threads on how to put the later rears in properly both here on the Barn and the HAMB.
The biggest concern is if the 32 is full fendered.
The later rears get progressively wider and can interfere with rear fenders depending on the spacing/size of the rear wheels and tires.
Fenderless cars are less critical, but they look a little awkward with the wheels way out from the body.
Upgrade the brakes/tires as suggested in previous posts.
Going fast in an old Ford is fun
Not being able to stop.......not so much.

You may want to consider upgrading the rear to the later scalloped type.
