looking for recommendations for insurance for my model A
I have a lower value driver car. It is a pieced together car that looks good from a far but up close far from good. I put my value at 5000-7500. Im not bothered by high deductibles. And im looking into insurance mainly for liability reasons more than replacement. Im in michigan which is a no fault state so i think that may make it cost more. What will I have to pay per month to insure an antique? I will be using a historical michigan plate once it is registered.

Re: looking for recommendations for insurance for my model A
not daily driver but a car that will be driven occasionally and not a show car or fine point car. Michigan allows historical cars to drive any time in the month of august. Also I drove my 1978 chevy truck for three years with a historical plate with standard plpd insurance. was pulled over for speeding once and the sheriff didn't mention the strange all number plate. But now im wanting to insure the car for sure and maybe the truck and a 30 year old motor cycle as antiques. but value on the chevy is low at 2-3k and the bike has a blue book of 1750. Also have a modern car for daily driving.

I would contact Hagerty insurance in Traverse City , Mi. There are others thatcan offer insurance in Michigan. With a reasonable deductible you will be suprised at the cost. I would guess it may be less than you would expect. Norm

If you use it as a daily driver you should not buy Historical plates. They are for limited use. Check with the Sec of state Office for details. Norm

You should join MARC and the local club in your area. The president of the Grand A's lives in Lowell. Ron Lachniet 616-710-2129. They can help you with everything about your car.
On Insurance, Haggerty is super, but if you are on a budget, check with Bobby Jo at NCM, 270-467-8833. |

I also would recommend Haggerty . Your description of your car sounds just like mine , and with the historical plate . If you haven't already , go to Haggerty's web site and check them out .

Re: looking for recommendations for insurance for my model A
I have american family and they will now insure my car where they did not use to and it was quite a bit cheaper than the classic car insurers because i have all my other insurance with them.

Your coverage and use should be around 100. bucks a year. give or take.........
JC Taylor is one of the cheapest, but coverages do vary, so you should call a few. |

Don't pass up checking first and getting a quote from Hagerty.

Re: looking for recommendations for insurance for my model A
I had a claim on my A with jctaylor. They paid quickly and a good amount. Was very satisfied. Premium of $107 per year.

It does have an impact on your premium on the value amount insured and deductible. I have no deductible and I still save a bunch with Hagerty.

Re: looking for recommendations for insurance for my model A
Simple call around and ask questions. Often your insurance company has an association with one of the antique insurances. If you have an umbrella you need to add to that also, you need to keep the liability levels the same as your regular cars too.
From the years, most agencies seem to not have any real bad problems. Most seems to be well liked. Do not forget about Condon and Skelly. Ask specific questions. What kind of driving is allowed? Are you allowed to stop at stores? What happens if I drive to work one day? What if I want to do a long trip? Do I need to belong to a club? Do I need a garage and where? What do I need to send every year? Some ask mileage, some may want pictures. I am in NJ. I have a 65 Mustang at $6000 and on the road. I have my A, not drivable yet but far along on a restoration, at $15k. I am paying $200 a year in NJ (expensive insurance state). |

Grundy has fewer restrictions and is very reasonable. They will even insure a project car.

Re: looking for recommendations for insurance for my model A
Thank you all for the god info. Good to hear there is a haggerty in a michigan location. A lot of companies dont deal with Michigan for the no fault issue. And good to hear that it would be that cheap. Ill have to call my state farm guy as well. I thought about just calling around but have been a victim of selling email/numbers before when shopping around for insurance. And they all ask for so much info.

Re: looking for recommendations for insurance for my model A
About the milage both the model a and the truck have broken speedos. So the mileage never goes up. 60000 on the model a and the truck is stuck in the low 30s. Once got it working and I put 1/4 of a mile on before it stripped out the new parts.
