Default having problems with 28 cross member motor mount

I had to remove the timing cover to access the timing gears on a late 28 with the accursed front cross member motor mount. Now I cannot get the engine back far enough to clear the mount and drop into place. The rear mounts are also unbolted. I've tried crowbars, jacking the rear axle up to pull back on the drive train, lifting the back of the engine, but all to no avail. Anyone have this problem before or know how to get the engine back just about 3/16 inch more?

You must of added some new gaskets behind that timing cover!
You should be able to use a pry bar as a shoe horn to pry the edge of the crossmember away enough to drop the engine back in. I worry about the fun you are going to have re-starting the four rear engine bolts back in.
Tell the wife and all the kids to looks out for Blue Air!
Keep telling yourself that it was in there before...............Good luck Pat!

Maybe the front wishbone is pulling the engine forward.

Is the throttle linkage hitting the firewall?also, lower the wishbone. To put rear mount bolts back in,jack up clutch hsg a bit & bolt holes should line up.
