1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Four Door Sedan (PICS)
Hello Everyone!
My name is Andrew and I am new to this forum. All I can say is, I am quite impressed! This looks like the place to be for Ford Model A owners, and I am glad to anounce that I will be one of them! I soon will be closing the deal on this 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Four Door Sedan. I am curious as to the background of the Murray Bodied cars. How many were produced with the Murray Body? What else can you guys tell me about these cars? This is the First Ford Model A that I will own and am really excited to add it to the collection. I am paying $3500 for it, what do you think about the price? The car hasn't run for about 8 years, but before that was driven in parades. They said that the odometer reads only 2000 miles, but I am sure either it has rolled over or hopefully those are how many miles that are on the engine since rebuild. The car is 500 miles away so i wont know anymore until I get it home. Thanks for all the Info and Enjoy the Pictures! From Denton, Nebraska. Andrew Kean

Andrew, as long as the body wood is good, I think you got a really good deal. Looks from the pix to be a good solid car. Some cleaning up and you've got a fun driver for the summer. Welcome to the club! Also, I always recommend joining up with a local Model A club. There is TONS of support for these cars. Harry K

Andrew--Nice find, and you will love the car...they are very comfortable to drive and ride in. It also appears to be a Town Sedan, since you have rear side and center arm rests. It should also have a dome light over the rear seat. The Model A Town Sedan Club was recently reactivated, and they have a lot of info on the cars. Good luck...I also have a 1930 Murray TS.

Great price if it is pretty solid. Just so you know, the 4 doors are on the rise. They were always the red haired step child until recently, when folks decided these are a heck of a lot more comfortable then the smaller tudors and everyone started worrying about putting their kids in the rumble!
When I was little, you could sit in the back of a pu-no more. Coupes are also a little less desireable, becuase of the rumble as mentioned. I know many will disagree, but young couples who want to tour with their families want these 4 doors.... |

Nice car! I have a Briggs 30 town sedan that is a good driver and a 30 Murray town sedan that I am starting a frame up restoration on. From my experience, if the wood is in good shape (body wood, top wood and floor wood), then everything else seems easy.

Re: 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Four Door Sedan (PICS)
A few coments. Decide what you intend to do with it. Leave original, or restore and if you restore to what extent. Check all the doors for sagging as they are wood framed under the door panels. This is the downside. If the wood is going the doors will be hard to hang straight or close well. Only with the slant windshield fordors did they go with all steel doors.
Price is good. I'd pay that all day long for it. |

Re: 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Four Door Sedan (PICS)
Right now my plans for the car are to get it running and to do some driving! I think eventually I will do a restoration of the car but that would be a few years down the road. The lady who had the car had some guys that were part of a Ford Model A Club in her area come and look the car over, and she said that they were impresed at how staight the doors hung. So that is a plus! We will find out how good the wood is once I get the car down to my place! They also said that there weren't any real rust issues on the car either, so thats nice.

Re: 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Four Door Sedan (PICS)
A friend of mine from Wisconsin, where the 1930 Ford Model A is located, came down to see my collection today. He is neighbors to the lady who is selling the car. When he was here I gave him the check to pay for the car. Now all I need to do bring the car down! It's all coming together, one step at a time.

Re: 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Four Door Sedan (PICS)
Hi,,
i have a 30 murray early town sedan too. As far as model a,s,go, i think the t.s are he bst model a,s ford made. Here is a list of the special features on can find owning a t.s. Factory installed cowlamps factory woodgraining special inside door handles and window cranks from 29 on to mid 30 the speedometer had a tripmeter incorporated in it. After mid 30 ford only offered speedometers.only one was offerednted chicle drab and copra drab. The t.s offers one a choice which color one wants on the bottom i am not sure of this, but i think t.s,s are the only ford that was painted maroon 29 and early 30 t.s,s had a trip meter incorporated in the speedometer. This resulted in making the gas tanks not interchangeable. On the trip meter if you want to record just how far you go on a trip, make sure your car is stopped before setting your tripmeter to zero. The list goes on but i think this is enough to make the t.s a special car. Al |

Al, all models for a given time period used the same speedometer and instrument panel.

Re: 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Four Door Sedan (PICS)
This past weekend I had a 1930 Ford Model A Murray Bodied Town Sedan brought down from Wisconsin. A friend of mine told me about this car back in October of last year and he sent pictures of the car to my email. I thought it was a nice looking unit but the $5000 the lady was asking was out of my price range. So a few months go by and my friend told me that the lady in Wisconsin still had the car for sale and she had lowered her price. After hearing that I promptly got a hold of her and got as much info on the car that I could. It was described as being in great shape, and since I have always wanted to add a Ford Model A to the collection I shot her an offer of $3500 and she accepted! That was back in December. I got the car paid for and then the process of getting the car down started. I eventually found someone that could bring the car down and yesterday my beautiful 1930 Ford Model A arrived! The car is in fantastic shape. It hasn"t been run for approximately 8 years, but before they parked it it was a running and driving car used in Parades and the such. The engine turns over with ease. Now I just need to do some cleaning up of things and try and get her to start. The wood on the car is in great shape from what I can tell, there isn"t a whole lot of rot anywhere. The body is in great shape as well, there is just one spot with a little rust at the bottom of the cowl on the passenger side. The interior is in great shape for being original, although I did have to clean out a few mouse nests. All in all I am very pleased with the new addition to the collection and I hope to have her running soon. I just have to find time to work on her between balancing school and work.
I hope you have enjoyed the story and pictures, as well I look forward to the replies! Thanks!! Follow the link to the Pictures! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...3&l=484aa90452
