1949 Ford F1 oil cap
I am embarrassed to ask this question but I cannot find the oil filler cap of my 1949 F1 truck
I see the breather tube and the oil filter but, where do I add the engine oil? I recently inheireted this truck. Thank you! |

Does the cap pull off or is it threaded? Mine seems solid. Thank you

Re: 1949 Ford F1 oil cap
The pictures show the correct style cap.
It slides down the filler tube as the filler tube has a bump that the notch fits over. I have never seen a screw on one -- that is current production style (as in modern vehicles) |

Is the cap held on place like the filler/vent cap on my 59AB, where it needs to be turned an 1/8 turn counterclockwise to disengage it from the groove in the filler/vent pipe?

No - it pulls straight off.

By the way since we’re talking about this isn’t there filter material inside the cap that is supposed to be changed? How is that accessible? And what is the purpose of the filter material just to filter out any particles in the air?

They have a washable metal gause material inside. I soak them in solvent to clean the buildup out.
