Default 8BA Ticking

Hi Guys,

Been reading previous threads on clicking and thought Id post here cause Im a little stumped. My 8BA in my 50’ F3 started ticking louder recently. The engine has 800 miles on it and has a 4” crank and mild cam. Oil pressure is @ 60 going down the highway and my oil is clean as is the filter. The tick is rhythmic and immediately starts as the truck is started and doesnt quiet down once warmed up.

I pulled out my stethoscope lastnight and the ticking is loudest on the bell housing near the starter. I replaced my bendix drive last summer as I had the same tick but its gotten louder. Im tempted to push start my truck without the starter in it and see if that changes. Any other ideas on things I should look at? If the starter doesnt do ill pull the starter plate off

Thanks in advance,

Sam

My first thought is a valve or fuel pump. Not sure ehy the starter would cause thid. Keep us informed.

Hi Sam. Your idea of running it without the starter is a good one, as is removing the plate. It does sound like it could be ring gear or flywheel contacting something. Perhaps the ring gear has moved forward on the flywheel and is just touching something. If that's the case sometimes pressing the clutch pedal will change the sound...better or worse.
