Looking for ideas..
On Nov 3rd I mailed a part from Montana to a fellow Barner in Michigan.
It was in Detroit by the 8th. Back in Billings MT on the 10th Denver on the 11th Billings on the 15th Denver on the 21st.... They tell me it can't be retrieved because it's being machine read so I guess perpetually caught in a loop??? Any ideas on how to get it out of this situation? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for any help you can give me! Dick |

Yes, If you have a tracking number (USPS) it can be programed to be caught and hand pulled at a mail center. It may have got the shipping label partially destroyed or another barcode on the box.

Maybe Rod Serling has a connection from the Twilight Zone?
I would notify the Post Office and try to track that sucker down. |

Re: Looking for ideas..
When you say mailed I assume USPS? I think no matter what shipper they would have the ability to find the package as STEVE O suggested. I once had a pair of '39 pickup doors shipped from Montana to Illinois via Greyhound Bus. It was a similar situation where the doors got "lost". After many phone calls turns out they got put to the side at a Chicago terminal for months. Finally a Greyhound representative tracked them down and got them to me 4 hours down state.

Re: Looking for ideas..
Go to the post office with the tracking # and have them run it on their computer. Their's will show more info.
This is getting to be a common problem. I've had 4 shipments this year that had an unbelievable route to the destination but always arrived, only late. One package left La. going to Ca. Tracking showed it arriving at the Ca. correct postal dist. center for delivery. The next day it was sent to northern Ca., then it went to Ohio. From there it went back to Ca. again to the correct dist. center. All this took over 3 weeks. The other 3 were similar in travels or just got mis-placed at a dist. center. Always took many phone calls to hustle along. Just for info all of these boxes were new, USPS,PRIORITY BOXES. Not re-used. Last edited by Gary in La.; 11-24-2017 at 10:32 PM. Reason: Add Info. |

Re: Looking for ideas..
Mailed a part on Tuesday to a Barner in Michigan. Arrived today. Not bad considering yesterday was Thanksgiving. Guess I got lucky with the USPS.

Re: Looking for ideas..
It happened to me, turns out the box that was used had an extra bar code on it, the scanner was reading wrong one, finally got it, after a lot of calls

Re: Looking for ideas..
When mailing in a used box, I always make sure any bar code used previously is completely obliterated (I usually try to get the old label off). Otherwise you can run into the wrong bar code being picked up.
I always had very good luck with the USPS when mailing parts. Maybe a day or two late, but that is about it.

Re: Looking for ideas..
Thanks everyone for the input!
It sounds like I need to get busy finding the person in the postal service that can actually do something. I'll start by going to a larger post office. As Steve said, there has to be a way to capture it. Thanks again! Dick |

Re: Looking for ideas..
Hi Dick, you will never believe what showed up today. I contacted my brother in law who works for the USPS and he was able to make some contacts to manually pull the package from the system. He then sent it to my address and it has been delivered. I owe you some money, so I am wondering if you have a PayPal account?

Re: Looking for ideas..
Hi Tony,
Thanks for letting me know. Sounds like it took someone with insider knowledge to catch it. Was there an obvious problem? Did the return address label cause the confusion? I sent you a PM. Dick |
