'28A Cowl assembly?
Guys,
I've had a look around but cant find an answer, the side cowl panels, are they riveted to the firewall? I see the subframe extensions are riveted to the firewall as are the toe board brackets but cant find info on cowl sides Thanks, Roger |

Re: '28A Cowl assembly?
Any I've taken apart have been held together by a combination of rivets and spot welds, but that's not to say that they were all done the same. Should be able to tell by looking really closely. If nothing gets posted sooner I'll look for some pictures tomarrow.

Re: '28A Cowl assembly?
Thanks, unfortunately my car came without a firewall , it had been cut out. The firewall I bought has no sign of how it was attached , other than holes , which I'm guessing had rivets rather than nuts and bolts. Nothing on original cowl sides that might give any hints.

Re: '28A Cowl assembly?
are all the holes the same size and what is that size? I ask because they could have used a spot weld drill bit to remove the welds..

They are all the same size all holes line up, the original sides and replacement firewall holes match.

Edit, found minute traces of the spot welds near the rivet holes on my cowl side panels, 3 holes 3 spot welds near them. Last edited by torana68; 10-18-2016 at 01:19 AM. |

Re: '28A Cowl assembly?
the bottom area right where the cowl panel curls under, there may be a rivet or two but im not sure - all the ones I dealt with were rather rusted out so I didnt have a whole lotta choice but keep grinding and chiseling till they became free.

Re: '28A Cowl assembly?
Here's a couple of pictures of some panels I disassembled recently. On the sides there were 3 rivets with 4-5 spot welds in between the rivets. On the bottom (underside) there were also 3 rivets attaching the side panel to the subframe extension.
Maybe posting some pic's of what you're working with would be helpful - I likely have pictures showing how just about everything on the cowling goes together. Good luck. |
