Default '49-'51 8BA 94 float drop spec

It's been a few years since I rebuilt a 94 and thought I had all the needed info, but now question the common float drop spec of 1 7/16". That is only a few 32s" lower than most of the recommended float height settings of 1 11/32"-1 13/32". I think a 1/4" -3/8" drop would be more correct, but maybe not. ??
I am using an OE steel needle if that makes any difference. Would appreciate your input.

I looked in every book I had and couldn't find anything. I just always make sure that the float doesn't drop so far as to cause the needle to bind. I have a '51 Ford service book and it doesn't give a float drop dimension. I know in the past 60+ years I've seen that dimension somewhere, but I can't find it. Have you seen the valve that Daytona Carburetor sells? It is a weird one! I put one in the carburetor on my '51. Been on there all summer and so far OK.

I have two of those Daytona float valves I intend to install in the dual 94s on my '51. The 94 I am freshening is for my test stand, and have a new steel OE needle valve on hand. The '49-'51 shop manual states float height, but not drop as you noted. The 2100 kit instructions give 1 11/32" height, and 1 7/16" drop, which amounts to 3/32", and just seems to high.

According to my old Holley parts and specs manual, 1 9/32" float level, and 1 17/32 float drop is correct. That means the float drops 1/4" which is plenty to allow enough fuel thought the needle valve to run well. This is what I've always used, and never any issues. As mentioned above, if the float drop is too low, the steel tipped needle can drop too far and cock. (bad thing).

Thanks for that information. Do you have any experience with the Daytona valves?

Sal,
I recently did some research and found an old post of yours with that 1 17/32" drop spec, which looks like a good number with the steel needle.
Based on the design and info from Daytona, their float valve needs very little drop, and 3/32" is probably OK.

Yes, I've used kits with the Daytona type valves. I think they work well and have no issue with them. They also require less float drop to flow well.

Yes, I agree. with the Daytona type float valve, it takes less float drop to get max flow.

Hope this isn't off topic. I used Grose Jet valve in my 94 with no problems.

I've used the Grose Jet valve in 97's before with no issues.
