A special kind of nut

I'm trying to find a source for the nuts that are inserted in a three-hole door window regulator. I have the nut inserts on the passenger side of my '29AA door, but they are missing on the driver's side. I couldn't find anything like it on Mac's or Bratton's website catalogs. They are different than clinch nuts, as they have two flat sides and a different design, although they are countersunk.
Do I just get out the Dremel and modify a few clinch nuts?

You can probably find a good regulator with good mounting captive nuts fairly easily and save yourself some work. Bert's has a lot of good original parts or you could purchase a reproduction regulator - they aren't very expensive. I am pretty sure the regulator for a 29AA is the same as used in coupes, tudors and other closed cab vehicles. Steve at Bert's would know for sure if pretty much all regulators will fit an AA truck.


Another alternative is to tack weld hex nuts where the unique nuts are missing.

Good afternoon...You have to remember that none of the suppliers have everything on their web sites...It is best to call them and explain what you need. Choose a supplier and develop a relationship with one of the folks who takes orders...its much more effective and much more fun than the web site...Just my opinion...Ernie in Arizona

Wrndln, Ernie, thank you both for some fresh direction. I'm considering tack welding a hex nut (1/4-20), but will first try direct contact with suppliers. I'm changing things up a bit anyway on these regulators, putting in roller bearings from sliding shower doors to make the mechanism operate more smoothly. I've already bent up some 18 gauge sheet metal to make new channels for the glass.

Make sure you check the threads. On my '30 Town Sedan (four screw regulators) I believe they are 1/4"-28.
