Default 40/41 Pickup-Heater Ducts/Vents

Did Ford equip 40/41 Pickups with heater/defrost ducts in the dash or were they part of heater kits installed by the dealership or others? Thanks

Yes, there are cutouts directly below the windshield garnish molding louvers to admit the warm air for defrosting. The defrost nozzles connect to those cutouts. The 1940 truck cabs have a smaller cutout than the 1941 cab. Correct defroster nozzles for these trucks are different from those used on the passenger cars. The truck nozzles are curved and difficult to find. Good luck.............40larry

Oval slots above instrument and glove box hole are where nozzles install. This is a NOS cowl for 1942-1947, 1941 is the same.

I noticed my 40 tonner panel has tiny little slots, not even 2 fingers wide and the 47 parts truck has much larger ones. When I have the windshield out I am going to enlarge them to the larger size. Good defrosters are pretty important where I live.

Here is a photo of a 1940 pickup cowl with the smaller version of defroster die cast ducts,(same as 1940 passenger cars) the one with X was removed from this cowl. The duct with masking tape is the tin or steel type used on the 1941 to 1947 Pickup/truck cabs. The NOS cowl shows larger defroster opening of 1941-1947 pickup and truck cab.
