Default Clutch/brake pedal pads and clutch question

40 coupe. Got my pedals all back together and found an original wood floor. The clutch pedal arm when not pressed, hits the bottom of the wood and all free end play is gone. I can't imagine that's normal?

Also, I ordered 40 pedal pads. When I received them, I was surprised to see they are different than what I pulled off. The new ones are round and the mounting stud is probably 1/2" thick and stout. The stud does not fit through the pedal arms. The pads/pedals I pulled off are oval with less stout studs (maybe 5/16" or so).

In looking at all the online sites and catalogs, I don't see oval pads (other than aftermarket) anywhere. I'm pretty sure my pedal arms are original and I bought a nos 40 bracket so I know its original style. Photos in a few. Thanks!

Adjust the freeplay with the rubber bumper installed. The flat side of each bumper faces away from the board.
You may find it necessary to trim the clutch bumper a bit so that it doesn't interfere with the frame when the pedal is being operated.
Original pads are round. I seem to recall the stud is 7/16".

I went to take photos and realize where my thinking went wrong on the pads. The pads that were in the car originally had a nut to secure it to the pedal. In going to take photos of my pedals, I now see that the pads are designed to screw I to the pedal and now I’m good! The new pedals do in fact just screw on. Cool.

Anyone have end play adjustment procedure? It’s not as simple as just adjusti g the rod on the pedal is it?

Yes, with the pedal at rest (rubber bumper up against floor board) adjust the rod until you have about an inch of pedal movement downward before you feel pressure.
